Legal Test Results

"Legal" paternity tests, or paternity testing for legal purposes, require accurate test results, as well as proof of identity for each person participating in the DNA paternity test. For legal cases, Gotta Know Testing tracks your DNA samples from the time they are collected until the time they arrive in our DNA testing laboratory(DDC). Following this chain-of-custody procedure outlined in the accreditation guidelines offers proof of paternity (or non-legal), as well as proof of identity to a judge, social worker, embassy, or other government official.

If you need paternity test results that can be used as a legal document, then a Legal DNA Test must be performed. Listed below are some common legal reasons that this test is used for:

Purchase a Legal Paternity Test online or call one of our offices (Houston-713-795-9955; Pearland 713-224-6650 or San Antonio 210-852-2520).   If you have already purchased a home paternity test, you may be able to upgrade to a legal test by calling your home office of choice.

Home Paternity Test or Peace of Mind Testing

If you do not need a DNA test for a legal matter — and only want to take a paternity test strictly for your own knowledge — you have the option of coming into one of our offices and allow one of our nurses to collect samples or purchasing a Home DNA Test from Gotta Know DNA Services.  In home paternity testing, the tested parties collect their own DNA samples and mail them to our laboratory. When you call to place an order for a home paternity test, we will send you a DNA kit within one business day and explain the step-by-step process to complete the test. Before ordering a home test, please consider the legal test if you believe the results will ever be used for more than personal knowledge — this way, you won't have to purchase another test in the future.
